BRC Booklets Bring Earth Ethics
into the Classroom
Buddhist Perspectives on the Earth Charter , published last fall, has been used in courses on Engaged Buddhism; Buddhist Social Ethics; and Ethics, Spirituality, and Ecology at DePaul, Harvard, Lehigh, and Swarthmore. The essays in this booklet are effective in promoting discussions on the intersection of religion and ecology.
Moreover, bringing the Earth Charter into your classroom enables students to apply critical thinking to a real grassroots, civil society movement currently underway.
If you decide to use Buddhist Perspectives in an upcoming course, we'll be happy to provide you with the latest version of the Draft Earth Charter, which will be circulated for discussion this summer. You and your students will be welcome to submit feedback on the text of the Charter to Professor Steven Rockefeller as the consultation process continues until early in the year 2000.
The full text of Buddhist Perspectives and Women's Views on the Earth Charter can be found on the Center's website. Or, ask us for complimentary review copies.
