Re-Awakening East-West Connections: Walden and Beyond
The Inaugural Ikeda Forum for Intercultural Dialogue

The first Ikeda Forum traced points of connection between the life philosophies of American Transcendentalism and Eastern wisdom traditions. We also explored the current relevance of the Transcendentalists’ unconventional approaches to lifelong learning and insight.

  • How can we awaken to all the possibilities that lie within the present moment?
  • How can a profound transformation in just one person affect an entire culture?

This inaugural forum celebrated the 150th anniversary of Henry David Thoreau’s classic, Walden. The series, to be held annually, honors the untiring and worldwide dialogues for peace undertaken by Buddhist teacher and BRC founder, Daisaku Ikeda.
